Mycelium
Collaborative exhibition with Lydia Harper, Paxton Wong, Stanley Lucas, Ollie Wilson and Alicia Del Pino Dolz
This exhibition was inspired by the intelligence of organic matter, specifically fungi, and the way it creates systems of mycelium roots under our feet, dispersing intelligence. we are investing this natural phenomenon by virtually replicating mycelium and studying its symbiotic relationships. We relate this to the wider concept of distributed action and how it can be applied to general protest and also the ongoing strikes. To visually and sonically represent this concept of collective action, we have created a interactive artwork that responds to the number of people interacting with it. We designed clay mushrooms that are wrapped in conductive materials, in which when touched will begin to visually spread projected mycelium and communicate sounds. As more people interact with the work, the visuals will start to connect together and sound stimuli will appear, creating a greater impact.
